Make-up Autumn/Winter Trends 2013

As part of my research, I looked into the make-up trends to get inspiration for my shoot concept look. When doing this, I researched mainly on the internet and within magazines such as Vogue and Elle to find out what the new trends were. When researching, I found that a lot of the trends were taking inspiration from the punk look and the punk trend for autumn/winter, following the met ball early this year. This showcased a-listers and celebrities embracing the punk theme. 

Fendi
Fendi embraced the original punk look with hair artist Sam McKnight, bringing back the mohawk hairstyle with a twist, using a French plait through the back of the head to add texture to the striking hair pieces. 


Prada
Pat McGrath followed the footsteps of Christian Dior with the petal stained lips trend, but opted for a dark red berry shade to stand out on the runway. The look was flawless and was completed with a flick of eye-liner on the lids of the eyes. The make-up showcased an element of grunge with smudged eye-liner under the eye with wet hair to emphasise a kind of 'I don't care' look.



Rick Owens
Rick Owen certainly blown away his audience with this extravagant massive hair in big and small crimps, which was paired with minimal make-up to keep the focus on the face. The hair most definitely showcased a range of textures and volume, which looked great on the catwalk. 



After researching into some of the make-up trends which I feel have all embraced the punk/grungy vibe which was present on catwalks this season, from Versace to Saint Laurent. I've decided that I want my final beauty look for my shoot concept to include crimped hair as I feel it would be great to photograph and is edgy, which will go towards the punk edge in the clothing. I also feel the crimped hair is very bold and textured and would add a fun element to the images. I also love the stained lips showcased at Prada and want my model to have bright red stained lips. I feel the red would stand out and add colour to the face and would also look great with a strong black eye-liner which I want to use on the eyes to make them stand out.

Elle Magazine Shoot Concept



For my shoot concept, I decided I want my 2 final images to feature in Elle magazine. This is because, I feel that my shoot will fit in well with the magazine.

'Elle' in French stands for she, which indicates that the magazine is targeted for mainly women. The content is aimed at women ages 16-30 who are interested in fashion and beauty trends. Women nowadays are very fashion concious as the industry is rapidly changing and therefore the magazine reaches a mass audience of women who seek advice to improve their appearance. Overall, the magazine content is full of articles and advertisements that focus on appearance, in particular fashion and beauty. Elle does this to reach their women audience, as today image is everything in the women and most importantly the fashion industry.


Elle is a very commercial magazine with over 442 pages of advertisements and the magazine thrives in selling. As a result, the magazine focuses on giving the consumer what they want and need. Elle does this through the content, including the advice and tips they give their reader in order to improve appearance in terms of beauty and fashion. The magazine is full of beauty and fashion articles and shoots, as that's what the main reader of Elle will want to be seeing within the magazine.



Elle is known for being a prestigious magazine as the content is filled with designer clothing and adverts for designer brands. Therefore, the audience for the magazine would fit into the higher demographics group from A-C1 as the reader would need a high disposable income to afford the fashion inside. Women who are aspirer's would be the main audience for Elle as they seek status. Their materialistic, acquisitive, focused on image, appearance, persona and fashion, which are all the things which the magazine offers their audience.



Overall, when looking at the main and type of reader for Elle magazine, I feel my shoot would fit in well with the magazine. This is because, the magazine is aimed at women and my shoot is for women's fashion and also includes a women model. The clothes I'm using are also affordable to the demographics of the magazine and the outfits would interest women aged 16-30 as the clothing is very trend driven and from brands which target young audiences, such as Zara.

As my shoot concept is about advertising a new trend for autumn/winter, it would fit perfectly within the magazine as Elle offers it's reader a lot of advice about the new trends. Also, my shoot would interest a mass audience, as women seek advice in magazines for the new trends and especially as Elle's main audience are aspirer's and the shoot will be focusing on images, appearance and fashion.

Elle also thrives in offering their consumer with what they want and therefore, I feel my shoot will fit perfectly inside the magazine. This is because, it will offer advice about the new trends and will be very fashion focused.

Elle magazine is overall very clean cut and simple and this style is continued throughout the magazine. Also, when analysing the editorial fashion shoots I found they were all about selling the clothing. The images were very strong, well thought-out and simplicity was key. To make sure my shoot fits into the magazine, I'm going to ensure my photographs show off the clothing well and that their strong. I will also keep to the clean cut and simple style of the magazine by shooting within a studio, instead of location.

My Trend: Heritage Rock 'n' Roll

Heritage Rock 'n' Roll

When analysing all the trends which I researched in high-end magazines and through the internet, I came to decision that Punk was the trend which I wanted to work with for my Visual Report assignment. I feel this trend could achieve me strong imagery and I also believe it will allow me to be very playful and versatile, as Punk has broaden since the 70's. My trend is called 'Heritage Rock 'n' Roll' and will include a mixture of heritage prints, leather, studs, fur and chunky boots to add a spin on the catwalk's A/W 2013 Punk. 


Some people could say the 1970's style has never gone out of fashion, but this season punk has changed dramatically and has widen to something which hasn't been on the catwalks as of yet. The style has become more accessible and wearable to fashionistas out there nowadays and it is no longer being seen as an expression of an Emo. The trend has elements of glam, tradition and grunge which are all styles that are loved by the fashion world today.
Nowadays people are wanting to look pretty with clean ripped jeans and slightly scuffed boots, showing that punk will never go back to how it was. Vivienne Westwood was known as the queen punk back in the 70's with her heavy interpretation of the trend. However, with this era we could see some new queens of punk, including Alexa Chung who is known for styling up her outfits with chunky boots and punk inspired accessories. 

This autumn/winter punk has took a more subtle approach with elements of it's signature styles from the 70's including chains and studs. The trend has turned to other trends to vamp up the punk look, such as tartan and leather. These are the two main elements to Punk this season, giving the trend a traditional element with chequered prints, styled with leather, chains and knee high boots to complete the look and grunge it up. 


 With the theme for New York's metropolitan museum yearly gala being punk, the trend became a big trend off the runways, as well as on the runways. In particular Versace, Moschino and Saint Laurent were big fans of the trend and showcased some gorgeous Punk pieces in their Autumn/Winter collections for 2013. 

Saint Laurent teamed up the famous British tartan print in dark colours with leather and a pair of chunky boots to add some heaviness to the outfit. There was also hints of inspiration from the 70's trend, bringing back leather skirts with buckles, as well as buckled boots. 
Moschino revamped the original Punk trend, giving their collection a glam twist with girly shift dresses and fitted jackets. They also put together Punk with traditional tartan throughout their collection adding a British stamp to their range. The collection showcased leather dresses with tartan suits and added accessories such as bulky boots and strappy buckled heels to grunge the outfits up. 
Finally, Versace went full on with the Punk trend and was evidently inspired by the 70's trend bringing back chained chokers, lots of leather and buckles. However, they added heritage print; tartan within the garments to modernise the trend and to also add some colour to the mostly black Punk.

Autumn/Winter 2013 Trend Altert!

For my visual report for styling fundamentals, I decided to conduct some research to form my virtual shoot concept. When researching for the Autumn/Winter trends for this year, I searched mainly on Vogue and Style and also looked in Elle magazine to wider my knowledge. This bought me to the conclusion that this season is very versatile and there's a trend to suit everyone. From tartan prints to rosy woolly winter coats, you are sure to find a trend you love.

This Autumn/Winter collections have been bombarded with everything from dark prints, pastel colours and coats in every possible shape you can think of to prepare you for the colder weather.The trends dominating the catwalks this season include:
  • Punk 
  • Pastel coats
  • Men's coats
  • Crazy fur
  • Menswear fabrics
  • Mid-century
  • Wings of desire
  • Moody blooms
  • Take cover
  • Rose bouquet 
  • The square route
These are just a fraction of the fashion trends this season as I was most inspired by these trends, when conducting my research. These trends also inspired the collections of top fashion designers and the most anticipated catwalk shows in the industry; Prada, Chanel, Versace & Gucci. 

This season, I am absolutely crushing over the patterns and prints and so much so that my wardrobe is already overflowing with checks, dark florals, herringbone and tartan prints. I've also fell in love with the pastel colours from lavender to powder pink that have paraded the likes of Celine and Gucci's catwalk shows.
I was particularly inspired by the Punk trend that ruled the catwalk shows of Versace and Chanel. The collections were inspired by the queen of punk, Vivienne Westwood and included tartan, studs and leather. I'm a massive fan of leather clothing and love the tartan classic print, so I fell in love with this trend immediately.
I also enjoyed Givenchy's and Valentino's take on the moody blooms trend. This involved dark floral clothing in hues of burnt orange, red and black. I love the dark, enigmatic glamour and feel it's a trend that can be played around with, using other styles. 
Finally, I absolutely adore the rose bouquet trend which took centre stage at shows including; Christian Dior, Lanvin and Celine. The trend is right up my street, with a feminine and chic vibe that can be interpreted into day or evening wear. 















These are images from 3 of my favourite trends for the Autumn/Winter 2013 from Givenchy, Chanel and Topshop's unique collections. From looking at all the trends and choosing these three as my favourite, I'm going to decide one trend which I think will be most effective for my Visual shoot concept.
